Brief:
Find a creative use for a mundane object, turn it into a product and package it.
Concept:
I wanted to take a standard drinking cup and repurpose it into a functional flower pot idea. Keeping everything to a nature theme, from recycled boxing as the package, reusing the leafy logo for pattern decoration, and keeping the rest of the packaged items in biodegradable bags. How everything is nestled in side the packaging resembles much like the Greentainer itself burying the cup inside the box and having the seed and soil buried underneath the cup as if you were planting.
Brief:
Research and create a typography poster based off a certain typeface
Concept:
Typography is the art of arranging type to make a written language readable and appealing when advertised. When designing this poster I really wanted to experiment with a typeface that I was not really familiar with and also play around with the placement of text in a way of constructing a well designed piece that flowed together.
Brief:
Design a minimalistic product booklet that is modern and engaging for customers
Concept:
Being that this a product booklet, I wanted to make type very bold and inviting to draw in attention of the customers, to keep viewers flipping through and wanting to read through the material. Using the grid and rounded shapes that resembled the font choice was something I really wanted to keep in the theme of this booklet, making everything look consistent and sleek. Precision has always been something that I like to express in my design work, and here I really wanted to make that apparent with placement and spacing that is observable in this piece.
Brief:
Design a company that serves as a multipurpose and differs from its fellow competition
Concept:
I wanted to create a beer company that not only crafted delicious beverages but also gave back to dog rescue organizations to help dogs find loving homes. So when creating the idea I wanted to look at other brewing companies in the market and see what wasn’t out there and then start brainstorming. Once that was found, I began creating the logo and designing the look and feel for the bottle, using certain breeds of canines that would come secondary for the naming of the flavor and then testing what color schemes would work best in the finished product.
- Doberman Pinscher: Stout
- German Shepherd: Weizenbock
- Yellow Labrador: Wheat
- American Bulldog: Indian Pale Ale
Brief:
Research and create a user experience design based off a product design
Concept:
I wanted to create a look and feel for the site that followed the main components of a standard beer company site, with showing products and description, followed by then leading users through other visuals such as tours, events, clothing, etc. My overall goal was to make this site uncomplicated as possible to navigate, but mainly to create a site that was enticing to users wanting to keep exploring.
Brief:
Design a new and fresh marketing materials for freelance client
Concept:
During my duration at Faith In Action I was commissioned to produce a number of different projects for the nonprofit organization such as logos, signage, email campaign ads, posters, brochures, etc. Creating work for this organization was my first outside attempt in the client based world and this was really my first opportunity to gain an experience of assisting a company with their branding approaches. Maintaining to company guidelines was very important when I was designing the work, but also going outside the box and really experimenting with different styles and ideas that I helped the client with to coming to a final decision on overall look and feel. From carnival themed gala marketing work, appreciation dinner postcards, and lunch fundraiser email invitations, all took careful research and design sketches before reaching client happy approval.
Brief:
Design a logo and other marketing material for freelance client
Concept:
When I was first approached by the client, they were very uncertain how to go about revamping their brand to something more clean and modern. When designing the logo I knew before hand how I wanted to both incorporate graphic and type as the key focus. Once that was complete, branding identity and maintaining it through other materials was next on the agenda, as what is seen for the business cards and postcard layouts.
Brief:
Design a logo and other marketing material for freelance client
Concept:
For this logo I really wanted to do something that was congenial to the client’s vision of her photography business. My idea was to use the client’s signature, something that was genuine and distinct, then I wanted to experiment with serif or sans serif type to give the logo a little more potency. When designing the the poster work for the client’s “Is it All in My Head” exhibit I kept to the wishes of the client by creating something relatively clean and organic in design.
Brief:
Create a movie poster off a style that is characterized by extreme spareness and simplicity
Concept:
The whole process of this project was to first watch a movie that you’ve never seen before and then create a minimalist design that captures what the movie is about. Movies have always been a passion of mine, so when creating this piece I was really excited that I had creative control to decide what movie to go off of and then research ideas to make a design that encompasses the film in whole. With this Quentin Tarantino movie that is based on a diamond heist, I wanted to show items that were key points to the film with the iconic black suit and tie, bullet holes representing where certain characters were shot in the film, the diamond on the bag to illustrate a jewel thief.
Brief:
Research and create a packaging to educate someone and give a deeper understanding about a cultural background.
Concept:
A mask is an ancient form of an expressive facial disguise. It is a symbol of the concealment of the ego behind an artificial mask. Legend says that the Italian festival, Carnevale, is said to be where the tradition of the mask was born. Thousands of participants roam through the areas of Italy wearing masks creating the possibilities for the wearers to turn into whoever they want to be while in costume. When coming up with this concept for La Obscure I was looking to target an audience that appealed to both kids and adults who wanted to learn more about the the Italian festival of Carnevale in a fun and playful manner. When designing the masks, sticking to the theme of Italian mythology I thought was an interesting idea because of what the deities symbolized and what playful characteristics could be displayed and represented.
The three masks displayed are inspired by Anteros (God of love and passion), Jove (God of the heavens and the sky), and Nox (Goddess of the night).
